Lets build a 1967 e type together

Eric, So like me with over 30 years you remember, putting xj6 pieces that fit or a distributor that could swap from a series 3.
This was well before the aftermarket.
There might be newbies that find this interesting, ive been down all this, but in the last 5 years the change for the better has happened for the etype.
5 years ago we didn’t have led bulbs that just screw in
5 years ago an IPHONE adjustable distributor
Modern insulations
Radios 3 inches deep with the capacity of an IBM computer from 30 years ago and so on.
Plus As im getting older, I cant remember half of it, so join the fun or watch TV.
I take door number one…
Now smile bunky, I get a lot of pm’s how do we keep going…its called , living.
Pm me the material for below the body, the drive train comes out after a summer of fun…….
Having fun

Mike, how long were they sitting on the frame, weeks? years? decades?
Im in agreement, all repop parts have to be checked and rechecked.
Its cheaper to throw out in New York then return!
Frustrating but true.
I think this is why this is a good thread, we are keeping up with the times…
The bulb kit was around 80 dollars from welch.
It was all pre packaged for your specific car.
The bulbs are not stark white, they are modern soft white. Against the black it looks great.
Will finish up in a week or so, waiting on the other gages.

You like it served up for you. Some of us prefer to do the obvious leg work ourselves.

In regard to LEDs, here are two excellent threads…one from seven years ago, one recent. Two minute search.

Today, I’m prepping my pickup for the media blaster…Bunky.

(j limongelli) #227

Babe, those sites are in the UK, I searched this site.
I didn’t even know that existed.
Good luck with the blaster bunky…remember NO TV.

I linked you to a UK thread earlier, and listed the sites with a gold mine of archives and useful articles.

The screw in LEDs have been around quite a while, at least since 2007:

iTS THE DRAW THAT I LIKE THE BEST AND NOW IF YOU WANT THE BLUE OR GREEN THEY DO MAKE COLOR RINGS FOR THAT GLOW COLOR.
I’m BLIND AT NIGHT I NEED LIGHT.
Ooops caps sorry.

probably sat for years. I don’t believe it was a tie rod issue but rather using the rack mounts to keep the torsion bars in place.

(Pekka T.) #235

Hi,

Probably still better than 8AM on a Monday.

(Ed Overmyer) #236

j_, Having owned an E type for 52 years, I want to add 3 more:
Jag Lovers
Cell phones
Lots of roll back car haulers
Money to pay for it all

(j limongelli) #237

Sorry been away
The carbs went to Curto as many other parts have come in!

My little Easter badket😀

(Erica Moss) #238

Hmm, brass damper tops. I think they were only used on early cars. It looks like your little number tags are still present. Do they correspond to the 4.2 range listed here? Maybe only the dampers were changed.

(Dzia) #239

Not an e owner but have used Joe Curto to rebuild my carbs on the TR6. I sent mine in the in season so my wait was not very long! I used Joe because I needed the throttle shaft brought back into spec. I was sucking too much air through the sides.

Bolted them up and spun it over. Car purred like a tomcat in a creamery. Only had to make very fine adjustments to idle and balance carbs.

I’m enjoying this thread Joey. In my house we have deep pockets but short arms. Your arms must be longer than mine!!

Same here. My little project would be much quicker if my long arms had something to reach when they got to the bottom of my rags!

(Paul Wigton) #241

I guess we should never again fork out for that snobby, hipster covfefe!

:grimacing:

(j limongelli) #242

Here is the original fuel gage with the green filter from the factory with a led bulb then a regularbulb
Next was the new repro which is excellent!
Without the filter with a standard bulb then the led bulb
You judge!
I love the last!

(j limongelli) #243

Choke light and dash light included in the kit
They toned them down so they don’t glare and look natural
I could hold the bulb all day and it won’t get hot in my hand
Say good bye to melted choke light housings

Anyone run led head lights?
